The call for applications for the Foundation’s Community Leadership in Justice Fellowship (CLJF) for the 2020/2021 or 2021/2022 academic terms is now open.
The Foundation provides funding for up to a maximum of $65,000 toward the cost of the fellow’s salary — this is an increase of $15,000 from previous funding cycles. The Foundation also provides funding up to $15,000 to the academic host for equipment and program-related expenses.
The CLJF gives nonprofit leaders the opportunity to further their careers and their causes through a paid fellowship. It provides a unique professional development opportunity for leaders to build bridges between community and academia, leaving a lasting access to justice legacy for both.
Fellows are senior employees of public interest organizations and are funded to spend all or part of an academic year at an Ontario university, law school, or college in a legal or justice studies related department (including but not limited to criminology, sociology, social work, political science, and law and society programs). The fellows plan and implement their individual projects, leading activities such as research, teaching, lectures, events, and collaborations. Candidates do not need to have a law degree.
The CLJF allows fellows to explore many different areas of law. For example, previous fellows have focused on:
- Coaching self-represented litigants
- The human right to economic justice for Indigenous people
- Developing an intensive program in disability law
- Educating students to think critically about civil liberties
The deadline for applications is April 20, 2020. For full details of the program criteria and application process, visit the Community Leadership in Justice Fellowship Call for Applications webpage.
