In memory of Madam Justice Joan Lax

Madam Justice Joan Lax, of the Ontario Superior Court, passed away suddenly on November 4, 2013. Justice Lax had been a long-time friend of the Foundation and she served as an LFO trustee from October 1994 to September 1996.

She was called to the Ontario Bar in 1978 and her career included practicing with the Toronto law firm Weir & Foulds, serving as the Assistant Dean & Director of Admissions at the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto, and being an elected bencher of the Law Society of Upper Canada from 1991 to 1995. She was appointed a Judge in 1996.

Her intelligence, wit, and dedication to legal education and public interest law will be missed.

We extend our sympathies to the Lax family.
