Call for applications to serve as The Law Foundation of Ontario’s representative on Law Commission of Ontario Board of Governors
The Law Foundation of Ontario has been advancing access to justice since 1974. Through granting and collaboration, the Foundation invests in knowledge and services that help people understand the law and use it to improve their lives. The Foundation also administers the Class Proceedings Fund, which provides cost assistance in class actions.
As a founding partner of the Law Commission of Ontario (LCO), the Foundation appoints a representative to serve on the LCO’s Board of Governors.
The LCO is Ontario’s leading law reform agency. It provides independent, balanced, and authoritative advice on complex and important legal policy issues. Through this work, the LCO promotes access to justice, evidence-based legislation and legal policies, and public debate on important and topical law reform issues.
The LCO’s Board of Governors provides overall supervision of the LCO. This includes approving the LCO’s Strategic Plan, projects, final reports, recommendations, policies, and budgets. More information about the role of the Board of Governors can be found on the LCO’s website. The term of this appointment is three years, with the possibility of renewal for a second term.
Applicants should bring the following skills, experience, and competencies:
- Experience practicing in a community legal clinic or other poverty law setting
- Knowledge of, or interest in, law reform work or Ontario’s justice system
- Experience in policy areas or academic fields relevant to the LCO’s work
- Demonstrated commitment to, and knowledge of, diversity, equity, inclusion, and Truth and Reconciliation
- Willingness and availability to fulfill the duties of the position
- Bilingualism (French) is an asset
