The Law Foundation of Ontario is seeking a Summer Law Student. The student will work closely with the Foundation’s Director, Policy & Programs and Grants Officers. Duties will include research, writing, and special projects in support of the Foundation’s grantmaking activities.
Key responsibilities:
- Research in support of various proposed strategic granting streams including needs assessment and new approaches/formats
- Support on several ongoing special projects including program evaluation, transition to new grants management software, and strategic planning
- In support of the Foundation’s strategic planning process and upcoming (2024) 50th anniversary, historical and legislative research about the Foundation’s establishment
Qualifications:
- J.D. or LL.B. student at a law school located in Ontario. Applications welcome from 1L & 2L students
- Computer literacy, including advanced competency with the full Microsoft office suite, as well as online meeting platforms such as Zoom and Teams
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong research and organizational skills
- Ability to work autonomously and take appropriate action where required
- Strong service orientation
- A high degree of integrity, sound judgment, and problem-solving skills
- Experience working with or in the nonprofit social justice sector is a strong asset
Work arrangements:
- Subject to public health directives, the Foundation will be moving to a hybrid work environment in April 2022. Ideally, we would like the successful candidate to be able to attend in person, although we will consider applications from students looking for a fully remote work opportunity. Proof of vaccination status (two-doses) is required for in-office attendance.
- The successful candidate will be expected to provide their own computer and internet access for any work-from-home.
- This is a fulltime (35 hrs/week) position. Compensation is $20/hour. The summer term runs for approximately 14 weeks from May 9 to August 14, 2022.
