The Law Foundation of Ontario was established in 1974 under the Law Society Act. The Foundation receives and uses the interest on lawyers’ and paralegals’ mixed trust accounts to support legal education, legal research, legal aid, and law libraries in Ontario. We do this through grantmaking to nonprofits and providing funds to Legal Aid Ontario. The Foundation also administers the Class Proceedings Fund, which provides cost assistance in class actions.

We are seeking to fill two Grants Officer roles: one permanent and one 14-month contract.
Are you committed to access to justice? Do you have experience in the nonprofit or philanthropic sector? As a Grants Officer, you will provide vital advice and play a key role in leading granting and program opportunities that support and enhance access to justice for diverse, equity-deserving groups across Ontario.
Under the guidance of the Director, Grants & Programs, and in collaboration with a dynamic, high-performing team, you will lead and manage funding relationships with nonprofits and legal institutions and develop innovative programs to meet community needs.
You will also:
- Collaboratively implement and maintain leading practices in granting, including managing and evaluating grant applications and providing ongoing support to applicants and grantees.
- Develop, lead, and execute special projects, including innovative programs for increasing access to justice in response to evolving community needs and industry trends.
- Serve as an ambassador for the Foundation in promoting and furthering its mission in the community and with stakeholders across the legal, public, and nonprofit sectors.
- Manage the full cycle of grant reviews while fostering and managing relationships with other funders, grant applicants, recipients, and other key stakeholders across Ontario and Canada.
- Support applicants and grantees to help improve access to justice for the people of Ontario.
- Prepare and present grant assessments and recommendations to the Board.
- Keep abreast of access to justice issues across the broader legal, nonprofit, and philanthropic sectors.
We are seeking innovative and collaborative candidates with a growth mindset and the ability to work independently and exercise a high degree of judgement, who possess the following:
- Post-secondary degree (e.g. legal or justice studies, public policy or administration, or related field) or equivalent experience.
- Interest in and knowledge of the justice sector and issues affecting access to justice and a commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Experience working or volunteering in the nonprofit or philanthropic sector.
- Experience developing grant applications and leading grant programs, or making grant and funding recommendations, and monitoring and evaluating grants.
- Demonstrated success in fostering positive relationships with colleagues, community partners, and diverse stakeholders.
- Proven initiative and ability to lead projects to successful outcomes.
- Superior oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in desktop productivity tools such as Microsoft Office and database systems.
- Additionally, the ability to work in both French and English is an asset, but not a requirement.
